Good Knowledge Is Good2Use

The re-installation of Small Business Server presents several problems. These relate to re-connecting the system to previously defined resources.
The following are actions to be aware of in the order in which they are likely to occur.

  1. During re-installation the option of installing Terminal Services and Terminal Services Licensing occurs. Do not take these options unless you want SSL support and have a CA. The Microsoft supplied CA is to be found on the Windows 2000 Server CD, so a copy of that will be needed as well.
  2. Re-defining userids. Having re-installed the next obvious step is to define the users and computers on the system. If there are existing Exchange mailboxes it is impossible to reconnect them to their users if the users are re-defined with a mailbox. The re-connection fails as a result of an already existing mailbox.
  3. Workstations need to re-establish a trust relationship with the server.
