Good Knowledge Is Good2Use

If you've ever fantasised about hosting your own radio show, podcasting is the latest hot technology for putting your show in front of millions of people. All you need is a Mac or PC, a microphone, some software, and something to say.

What is a podcast?

Podcasts are digital audio recordings which can contain commentary and/or music, and are distributed across the Internet as downloadable MP3 files.
Similar to blogs, the popularity of podcasts grew from enthusiastic amateurs who just wanted to have their voices heard by others.

The term 'podcasting' is largely attributed to Adam Curry, one of MTV's first DJs. Also, despite the name, you do not have to have Apple's iPod player to create or listen to podcasts. Podcasts are compatible with all MP3 players and PCs, since they're encoded in the widely compatible MP3 format.

NOTE:

One of the better aspects of podcasts is that you don't need a high-end PC to produce a podcast because the software to produce them isn't very processor intensive. Therefore, even if your PC is a few years old, you should still have enough power to create a podcast.

Create Your Own Podcast

In order to create your own podcast, the following hardware and software is needed:

It's fairly easy to find and listen to podcasts. Listening to a podcast is the same as listening to digital music. You can play them with any digital music player that supports MP3 files or using software on your PC.

How are podcasts different from a radio program or an audio file on a Web site? Podcasts are different because of time-shifting and subscriptions. Similar to TiVo, you can time-shift or listen to your favourite podcast at any time you like. You just download it and play it on your PC or digital music player.
Additionally, podcasts are different because you can subscribe to your favourite podcast (using RSS) so that every new episode of your favourite player is automatically downloaded.
