Start the repair process by using one of the following methods:
- Start from the Windows 2000 Professional installation CD-ROM. Make sure that the CD-ROM is set to start before the hard disk starts. Insert the CD-ROM, and then when you are prompted, press any key to start the Windows 2000 Professional Setup program.
Follow these steps.
- Make sure CD-Rom is first Boot Device in your BIOS
- Insert your Windows 2000 CD
- Once this is done boot up using CD-Rom Drive.
If your Hard drive is not setup then this is automatic, if not you will see "Hit any Key to Boot From CD-Rom" on the screen, hit any key on keyboard to invoke CD-Rom boot
- Start from boot disks. Insert Disk 1, and then insert each of the remaining three floppy disks when you are prompted to do so. Bootable floppies can be created from a Windows 2000 CD.
- Start from within a current operating system. Insert the CD-ROM, and then, at a command prompt, type drive:\i386\winnt32.exe and then press ENTER, or if this is an installation on a computer that has no previous installation of Windows, type drive:\i386\winnt.exe and then press ENTER, where drive is the letter of the CD-ROM drive.
It is important to note that installing Windows 2000 over Windows 98 is not supported. As a result, it is necessary to remove Windows 98 before Windows 2000 is installed.
The best way to remove Windows 98 is to re-format the drive. The current bootable disk may be formatted as FAT32 due to its size. Note that the install process will call for a decision over re-formatting the destination drive and will, if necessary, re-format to FAT32.
Setup inspects your computer's hardware configuration and then begins to install the Setup and driver files. When the Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional screen appears, press ENTER to set up Windows 2000 Professional.
The following screen now appear and Windows 2000 will load in device drivers.
