It's a good idea to create a Windows NT 4 or 2000 boot disk that can access the hard drive of your computer in case there's a problem booting. The following procedure will boot your computer regardless of whether you're running FAT or NTFS.
- Format a floppy disk with the Windows NT Format utility
- Open My Computer and right-click the floppy drive icon to choose Format.
- Copy the following files from your computer to the floppy disk:
- Ntldr
- Ntdetect.com
- Boot.ini
- Ntbootdd.sys (if you have a SCSI controller for your hard drive)
NOTE: Ntbootdd.sys is a copy of the appropriate driver for a non-INT13 SCSI device. During installation the file is transferred to the target hard drive with this new name. If your SCSI controllers are installed as multi devices, not SCSI devices, you probably don't need the file.
