Homebrew is required as a development environment. The install procees depends on the level of MacOS. This can be determined from Apple log (top left of screen) and click About..

Homebrew installs the components need that Apple (or Linux system) hasn't as standard. It installs packages to their own directory and then symlinks their files into /usr/local. The packages Scipy and Matplotlib should also be installed.
