Finger: This command lets you obtain information about Internet users. Internet systems can run a finger daemon that lets anyone get this data, although some sites turn it off to protect users' privacy.
When you use this command, you can find out the usernames of people at a site and can get information about specific users, such as their email addresses and home directories, the exact terminal they're logged in on, when they were last logged in, how long they've been logged on, and when they last received and read email. This option is equivalent to entering the following UNIX command:
/usr/bin/finger @ ipaddress
