Good Knowledge Is Good2Use

Small Business Server 2000 Beta 1 was installed on the server by using the default configuration. No additional tuning to any of the server application was done, except for the following procedures:

  1. Configured the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) scope options: 03 Router (local machine)
    • 06 DNS Server
    • 15 DNS Domain Name
    • 44 Net BIOS Server
    • 46 Node Type 0x8
  2. Changed the ISA Server cache configuration from 50 percent memory resources to 10 percent memory resources. The default configuration in Small Business Server Beta 1 was for ISA Server to consume 50 percent of the memory.
For the final released product of Small Business Server, the default setting is 10 percent, which was represented in these tests.
  3. Adjusted the page file for each memory configuration. Using the 1.5 times the amount of RAM in the system. (256MB RAM = 378MB page file)

Client Configuration

The clients used in this test were a mix of computers. The network topology for this test was a shared 100MB network running TCP/IP.

The tests were run by using one harness computer that initiated each test and by three clients that performed the tests. The test process calculated the amount of usage of Exchange, SQL Server, Proxy, and Fax Service by a percentage.
